Multiple IM – Digsby, Psi and Pidgin

Thursday - 2 October 2008

Digsby = IM + Email + Social Network. Wow, that’s cool!. I know there are many other softwares that have the same function like this one, just want to promote so that one of you out there (with many many ID) could try. I just figure this out from the adv. Lambat cita juak. But it is not like I’m using too many ID for IM. I only use Yahoo Messenger.

I once used this software called Psi, for Jabber client. Psi also come with multiple IM + email notification but you must find the right Jabber server (there is many out there, JabberEs.org) that support what IM you are using. Open source and light weight. I can say that it is more to text messaging just like MIRC where you see colorful simple display but nice (if you don’t really want to see to many effects in your messenger). It is simple yet complicated!

Back to Digsby… Hmm, long story short

  • It support AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber, and Facebook Chat Accounts.
  • Cute graphical interface. The main reason I voted Digsby.
  • It fades in and out chat window so that you can read the text message even if you were doing other work. I think Yahoo Messenger 9 Beta has this function too (I’m using YM8). You can even reply from that faded window…
  • RAM consumption is about 30mb. YM is about 36mb I think (well, more graphical effects aite)…

I think you better try it or read about it more in their website. Yah, lots of stuff to tell ya…

And if you wanted to save more RAM, you should try Pidgin also a multple IM. It uses about 11mb of your RAM. It supports AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. It display your friends graphic. Simple and nice….

I wonder why I talk too much about others than Digsby….
